The Story of our Farm family

It all started with two wethers (neutered males) as pets, Niles and Frazier. They came from Gloria Winters of Walnut Cove, NC.

Why goats? The house we purchased in 2001 in Hillsborough had a large pen with a big "dog" house. Remembering my childhood goat, Woody, I said, "That pen would be perfect for some goats..." In June, 2002, Niles and Frazier arrived, started a name theme of TV characters.

Not long after their arrival, I discovered a stray baby goat at an animal shelter in Charlotte. We drove down and adopted her. We named her Daphne when she arrived in July, 2002. She was a tiny, frail doeling, full of lice and growing poorly. She grew and thrived with good hay, grain, minerals and some TLC! You'll see her as our "logo" because she was our special girl.

Then, we were truly hooked on goats. In 2003, the barn was built by my talented husband, Brian.

Here is a link to an album of the Barn that Brian Built!

We purchased some adult does to start our breeding, again from Gloria Winters-- Monique and Dove. And the herd grew from there!

The NC State Fair sparked interest in Miniature Donkeys in 2003. Soon, we had found Elevenses Llamas and Miniature Donkeys and picked out a pair, one gelded male, August, and his lady friend, Connie, who was pregnant.

Connie delivered Rocky to us in April 2004! He had quite a rocky start when his mother rejected him and he had to be bottle-raised. When only 12 days old he was attacked during the night and barely pulled through. He has a story unto himself. Be sure to check it out on the Donkey page!

The beginning of 2004 heralded the addition of our first breeding buck, Chestnut Grove's Blue Diamond (right) He initiated our breeding at Spring Woods Farm. He bred on our farm in 2004 & 2005.

Blue Diamond returned to TN to his original herd, and was replaced by CornerStone Farm Calah (left) our Nigerian buck for 2006.

We have only kept one kid so far, even though baby Nigerians are SO adorable. We enjoy raising them and sharing them with other goat lovers.

September 2006 marked a change in our breeding program! Due to medium size with more comfortable udders to hand-milk, we added 2 wonderful mini-Nubian does from Checkerboard Creek Farm in Oklahoma, Cesna and Clare. See the Doe page for more information.

Calah was traded for a Mini-Nubian buck, Cowboy (left) . He's got tons of personality and sweetness and a great milk pedigree too. He does not normally come in the house!

2007 brought our first mini-Nubian kids, right, Sig and Lucy.

2008 brought big changes to our farm life! We built a new house and barn in Caswell county, North Carolina. We've also adopted 3 llamas. Be sure to check out their page. This spring we had 5 mini-Nubian kids - four does and one buck. What a year!
